vinnie's grips

hi folks,
i've always been wondering what grip Vinnie started playing.he seems so comfortable with both that it's hard for me to tell which one is his favourite.
lately,i've started playing traditionnal cos i do a lot of gigs in small clubs and it seems that i got used to it.now i'm really workin' on it but still uses matched grip for,say "loud music".
anyways,do you guys know if Vinnie originally played matched and later on traditionnal grip?
i've lots of videos from the late 70's early 80's ,and he's always using matched grip!!! [img]eek.gif[/img]
man...how can he be such a monster with both grips???
if anybody got info,that would help a lot.

For me, changing grip puts me into different mindsets and effects what and how I play, so I guess Vinnie changes grips depending on the gig. I think Vinnie can handle both grips perfectly in terms of changing dynamics. I think he plays matched quite a lot on the Karizma DVD?

I was also quite suprised to see Gadd play matched throughout Micheal McDonalds "A gathering of Friends DVD". (please...don't tell my friends or family I own that )

I've seen him use matched:
- songs and visions the whole two hour show (around 97/98)
- Sting in Japan switching from trad to match
- Zappa days
-old yamaha clinics (going back and forth)

and believe me, he's just as confortable with both (from the viewer's perspective)... amazing.
